A 68-year-old patient in a Minnesota hospital died in police custody after he attacked a number of nurses with a metal pole, injuring two.

The attack, carried out by Charles Emmett Logan, was caught on hospital security video. Police are investigating both Logan’s motive and the cause of his death.

From NBC:

Police in Maplewood said they still didn’t know why Charles Emmett Logan, 68, of St. Paul died after being handcuffed following the attack Sunday.

One nurse suffered a collapsed lung, and another fractured her wrist, NBC station KARE of Minneapolis reported. Medical staff told police that Logan was suffering from paranoia, the station reported.

Police said in a statement that officers used a Taser stun gun on Logan when they found him three blocks from the hospital and, when that wasn’t effective, wrestled him to the ground and put him in handcuffs. Almost immediately after the cuffs were locked, police said, Logan became unresponsive and later died.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death was scheduled, according to police.

Extreme Carjacking:

A news reporter in Queensland, Australia got quite the break while on his way to the scene of a shooting Thursday morning.

While driving to the crime scene, Australia’s 7News cameraman Peter Steer was asked to pull over by a barefoot motorcyclist on the side of the road.

“He got off his bike and approached me and said ‘I’ve got a story for you,’” Steer said to 7News. “I said ‘Well, mate, you better hurry because I’m going to a shooting,’ and he said, ‘Mate, I’m the shooter.’”

Earlier that day, a woman had allegedly been assaulted at a house in Noosa Heads, Queensland. She reportedly survived the attack, but was taken to the hospital with head and neck injuries.

Steer turned on his camera and began talking to the man, who reportedly had blood stained hands. That’s when the confession came.

“I hope she’s alright. I think she’s dead,” the man said. “I surrender myself to God.”

Steer called police, but before authorities could arrive the man hopped in the news van, pointed the same gun he used to shoot his last victim in Steer’s face, and drove off. Fortunately, he didn’t get far. The gunman crashed the van into a tank at a nearby gas station, smashing the vehicle, which aided in his arrest. That extreme moment was also caught on tape by a dash cam installed in the van.

Authorities apprehended the man at the gas station. You can watch the bizarre video above.
