Fellas, you might want to turn that front camera off and step away from your iPhones. According to a study, there’s a connection between men who post selfies and narcissism and psychopathy. We’re looking at you, Justin Bieber.

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that he and other men who post photos of themselves on the ‘Gram and other social networks are narcissist and psychopaths, but researchers at Ohio State University found that those who post more than others scored higher on the anti-social traits. Those who spend more time filtering their faces are more narcissistic, confirms the study and your overall suspicion about guys who edit their selfies to hell.

“It’s not surprising that men who post a lot of selfies and spend more time editing them are more narcissistic, but this is the first time it has actually been confirmed in a study,” said Jesse Fox, lead author of the study and assistant professor of communication at OSU. “The more interesting finding is that they also score higher on this other anti-social personality trait, psychopathy, and are more prone to self-objectification.”

The study polled 800 men from age 18 to 40 about how often they posted selfies and their editing habits, and results also showed that there was no connection between edited snaps and psychopathy, so that’s good, we guess.

“That makes sense because psychopathy is characterized by impulsivity. They are going to snap the photos and put them online right away. They want to see themselves. They don’t want to spend time editing,” Fox said.

Fox adds that they’re currently conducting similar research on women, and we suggest she starts with Kim Kardashian.
