Police searching for two Kentucky teenagers who have been on a “brazen and dangerous” crime spree since Jan. 4 found their abandoned pick-up truck in Georgia Thursday morning, authorities say.

The teenage fugitives, 18-year-old Dalton Hayes and 13-year-old Cheyenne Phillips, left their homes in central Kentucky at the beginning of the year to embark on what the media has dubbed a “Bonnie & Clyde“-type crime spree, damaging property, stealing cars with firearms inside, and cashing stolen checks.

According to the NY Daily News:

The two fugitives were spotted at a Walmart in Manning, S.C. on Monday but since then they have traveled south through Georgia, officials with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department told the Daily News Thursday.

The stolen red 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck they were driving was recovered in Henry County, Ga. on Thursday morning but authorities have reported the two allegedly stole another vehicle with multiple handguns inside.

Grayson Sheriff Norman Chaffins told The News a silver 2001 Toyota Tundra truck with a silver toolkit and firefighter’s certification badge was taken near where the previous car was recovered.

Friends, family, and detectives have no lead on the teenagers’ motives or where they are headed next. Their biggest concern? — making sure they get to the teens before they get hurt.

Or maybe hurt others. That would be the more pressing concern, no?

Hayes’ mother, Tammy Martin, told ABC affiliate WHAS-TV in Louisville that she’s worried what the teens might do next.

“He’s never went this long without contacting me, and it’s really very stressful. I’m just worried that they’re not safe anymore,” Martin said.

“I’m not sure they know where they are headed,” he said. “She’s 13, he’s 18. Obviously he’s probably making the decisions in there. We’re trying to locate them before they get hurt.”

Chaffins said he did not want to speculate on what caused the two to flee their families on Jan. 3 but he said they are concerned about their safety and how their crime spree may end.

Hayes may face charges of custodial interference, given that his partner in crime is only 13-years-old. The teenager’s mother said she believed Phillips was the same age as her son, not a minor.

The two have been dating for three months. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office at (270) 259-3024.
