Three men in the Bronx duct-taped and robbed an elderly woman of $5 on Dec. 20. The robbery took place at the woman’s home on Prospect Avenue in the Bronx, according to the NYPD. The armed men knocked on the elderly woman’s door and when she answered, pushed their way into the apartment and duct-taped her. The men took $5 cash and left. The woman did not have any injuries. A southeastern Idaho man who threatened residents at an apartment building with a machete was shot, and one of the residents was able to capture the incident on camera. Twain Thomas entered an upstairs apartment in Pocatello and threatened two people with a machete. Thomas then entered an apartment down below and threatened two other people. One of those people shot Thomas in the torso. Read more here… [ksat]

For the first time since June, there were fewer than 100 cases of the deadly virus Ebola reported in the past week. However, the WHO reported that only 30 percent of new cases in Guinea are contacts of Ebola patients, so officials have no idea how most patients are getting infected. In Liberia, it’s 50 percent, while no data is available for Sierra Leone. The outbreak is believed to have killed more than 8,000 since March. Read more here… [Mashable]

The crash of Malaysia Flight 370 was deemed an accident by Malaysia’s Aviation Authority on Thursday. All 239 passengers, including staff, were declared dead by Malaysia civil aviation chief Azharuddin Abdul Rahman. Rescue teams pursued leads and reviewed data that tracked the plane to the southern Indian Ocean, but were still not able to find the full wreckage. Read more here… [Mashable]
