UPDATE: In a heartwarming letter to Michael J. Fox, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield has confirmed that the first pair of self-lacing Nike Mags will go to the actor himself. More pairs will be released in the spring of 2016 and will further support the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which works to aid the fight against Parkinson’s Disease. The letter also features a pretty dope illustration of Michael with a pair of the kicks. Check out the full note below.

So, it’s finally happening.
In the days leading up to Back To The Future Day, Nike has been teasing the possibility of the self-lacing sneakers imagined in the movie, and star Michael J. Fox even spoken out about the hype. Now, it appears the hints have been confirmed. Mashable reports:
“Nike has confirmed to Mashable the ‘first pair of self-lacing Nike Mag shoes is in New York City.’ The company didn’t provide further details as to the sneakers’ precise whereabouts in the city, but they’re sure to turn on soon enough.”
No word yet on whether there will be more pairs of the self-lacing Nike Mags to follow, and a surprise release still remains unlikely for today. Stay tuned for updates.
