Just when you thought Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter were the only social networking apps you needed, it’s time to check out Boomerang.
From the makers of Instagram, Boomerang lets users create and share gif-like images. The new app does this by taking a bunch of pictures and then stitching them together into a mini video. It’s different than a gif because you can play it both forwards and backwards. Once you create the moment, it automatically gets saved to your camera roll and can easily be uploaded to your Instagram.
In an entry posted to Instagram’s blog, they explain, “Capture a friend jumping off a diving board, defying physics as she flies back and forth through the air. Transform an ordinary selfie with your friends into a funny video. Get that exact moment your friend blows out his birthday candles, then watch them come back to life again and again.”
It looks like Instagram may have just gotten even more addicting.
