Another year, another attempt from Lay’s to introduce strange flavors of potato chips when all we really want are the classics.

The snack brand has just unveiled four new flavors as part of their Flavor Swap campaign: Kettle Cooked Olive Oil & Herbs, Smoked Gouda & Chive, Fiery Roasted Habanero, and Korean Barbecue.

OK, they’re not as extreme as Lay’s’ attempt at Southern Biscuits & Gravy, but we’re not quite sure what to make of them. A taste test done by the good people at PEOPLE has us less than enthusiastic. For example, the mag compared one of the new flavors to that of ramen.

PEOPLE reports:

We were practically high-five-ing each other when we guessed that one of the chips was Ramen flavored (or rather, Ramen seasoning packet, but that’s neither here nor there). But clearly we weren’t using our noodle: it’s their new Kettle Cooked Olive Oil & Herbs.

And they were widely displeased with Korean Barbecue:

The “charred,” “pungent” one we christened Burnt Ends (since some of the other names we called it are unprintable). That little gem is, in reality, Korean Barbecue. And may it die a quick and painless death.

Fortunately, we all have a chance to kill off the flavors we’re not feeling by voting online in the competition between the new flavors and four older.
