Happy Birthday to the Queen, and we’re not talking about Elizabeth.
Oprah Winfrey turns 62 years old today, and the queen of media is still holding down the title. The Mississippi native has been on television since the early ’80s, and her network isn’t the only thing that’s changed over the years.
Oprah never saw herself as a style icon, but her remarkable hairstyles set her apart from all the other up and coming entertainers during that time. In 2012, she covered her very own O Magazine, rocking natural non-blow dried, no straightened locks and sharing her hair journey with fans.
“Before I turned 50, I’d vowed to cut all my hair off and wear it close-cropped à la Camille Cosby,” she said.
Gayle King’s ex-husband, Bill, convinced her otherwise. “‘Don’t do it,’ he said. ‘You’ve got the wrong head shape. You’ll disappoint yourself.’ I took his advice.”
