Honoree: Jeremy Pope

The Grind: Actor, Singer

Find Him: @jeremypope

At just 28 years old, Jeremy Pope has quite an accomplished resume. He’s only the sixth person to be nominated for two separate performances in two categories in the same year at the Tony Awards. He was nominated for a GRAMMY, and received critical acclaim (and an Emmy nom) for his portrayal of Archie Coleman, a Black writer struggling to break into the industry during tinseltown’s golden era while also being gay, in Hollywood.

While the Netflix series showed the possibilities of what could have been, Jeremy is very vocal about the current oppression happening all over America present day. In every interview, the Florida native calls out for the protection of Black lives, and Black Trans lives and the importance of representation in the entertainment industry. He heralds Janet Mock as his backbone and James Baldwin as a muse, and he kept this same energy in his response to his Emmy nomination. In the midst of joy and excitement he noted the amount of Black nominations and hope for systemic change.

Since quarantine fans of Jeremy, and those just discovering him, get to see the actor share his creativity with pictures that are equal parts edgy and beautiful, a new hair color and two, and new music.
