We all know Terrence J as the host of 106 & Park, but, our view of the lovable boy next door changed a bit when we first saw him as Dante on BET’s The Game. It changed… but in a good way.

EXCLUSIVE: Terrence J Goes From Homeless To TV Host

A different side of Terrence than we’d ever seen, The Game brought the TV host’s acting skills to the forefront showing us that he had come a long way since beginning his hosting gig on the same station almost seven years prior.

As he transitions from host to actor, Terrence sat down with GlobalGrind and told us what it really means to him to take on this new role.

GlobalGrind: So how does it feel to be on the other side of the interview?

Terrence J: It feels good. After doing this film [Think Like A Man] we had to do a lot of press junkets and it makes me respect this side of it a lot more and now it actually helps more when I’m doing the interviews. I can learn a lot from you!

What made you decide to get into acting?

Acting was always the aspiration. I always looked at Will Smith and Jamie Foxx at a young age. That’s what I wanted to do when I initially came out of college. There were no real acting roles, the sitcoms were pretty much a dying breed. Everything had become reality shows back when I first came out of school, back in 2003. I would audition for stuff and not get it, I went on 100 auditions. 106 was like a decoy for me but this was one of the best experiences of my life because through the six-seven years I’ve been here, I’ve gotten to witness so many different kinds of careers.

You learn about the tangible elements that you might not know going straight into acting. I get to see what films work, what songs work, how people are humble, how people have egos and how it’s their downfall. You get to learn all types of things – money management, relationships, so now as I really take on acting as a more prominent stage in my career, I have a lot more knowledge as a man than I had when I first came out of school.
