GlobalGrind spoke with police today to confirm that the family members, who were arrested on felony charges of lying to the police, were picked up this morning.

The mother, Karimah Aisha Elkins, 36, and aunt, Katrina Latrelle Elkins, 33, were booked into the Glynn County jail before 9 a.m., according to Ron Corbett, undersheriff of the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office.
Initally, Karima Elkins had told police that her nephew was with her on the morning that the 13-month-old baby was murdered, therefore, he could not have committed the crime.

Both women posted $1,104 bail on the charges.

Elkins was charged with murder for the shooting of a 13-month-old baby last week. The baby’s mother, Sherry West, originally described the assailants as a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old.

An anonymous tip led police to 17-year-old Elkins and a 14-year-old accomplice, who will not be identified because he is a minor.
