Just like in New York City last night, a huge crowd gathered to attend a rally led by the Rev. Al Sharpton at Fort Mellon Park in Sanford, Fl on behalf of murdered teen, Trayvon Martin.

Trayvon’s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, were on hand to thank the crowd for their ongoing support in their pursuit of justice in their son’s death.

Earlier today Trayvon’s parents met with Robert O’Neill, the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, and Roy L. Austin Jr., who is the deputy assistant attorney general of the department’s Civil Rights Division where they discussed the police investigation into the shooting of their son.

The State Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case, which will be presented to a grand jury next month. Trayvon’s parents have been calling for the arrest of the shooter, 28-year-old George Zimmerman.  They claim Zimmerman was profiling their son and acted like a vigilante.

As for the rally, thousands turned out to show their support for Trayvon’s family and called for the immediate arrest of Zimmerman.

Sharpton told the crowd of supporters-

“We did not come here for a temporary leave of absence. We came for permanent justice.  We want to see Zimmerman in court with handcuffs behind his back charged with the death of Trayvon Martin.”

Referring to the fact that Sanford police chief Bill Lee temporarily removed himself from the position in the hopes of restoring some semblance of calm to a city which has been in turmoil for several weeks.

Trayvon’s mother called Lee stepping down as she took the stage a “temporary relief” adding “Trayvon is my son, Trayvon is your son… we want justice for Trayvon.” Trayvon’s father, Tracy said- “I pledge that I will not let my son die in vain.”

Sharpton also announced that he is starting a donation drive for Trayvon’s parents pressing the crowd to raise money for the cause.

“I’m gonna start off with $2,500,” Sharpton said, holding up a check. “Who’s next?”

The Rev Al Sharpton announced that television personality Judge Greg Mathis donated $10,000.

Several elected Florida officials were present, and each took a turn addressing the crowd before Sharpton was scheduled to speak. U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown was one of the first to address the crowd Thursday night. She rallied the crowd by yelling, “I want an arrest, I want a trial.”

The she asked the crowd: “What do you want?”

And the crowd responded, “We want an arrest!”

Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett pledged to the crowd that he was committed to finding justice in Trayvon’s slaying.

“We’re truly working on the right steps, I feel right now,” Triplett said. “The true point right now is to find justice.”

The crowd was full of hope and justice for Trayvon will come.
