If we were really living in 19th-century France and plagued with famine, veganism would be the last priority on our bulleted list written in fountain ink, but Les Misérables is just a movie, so vegan Anne Hathaway could totally do it her way.

According to an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, costume designer Paco Delgado revealed that Anne Hathaway had some special costume requests when she signed on to be the lead of the movie.

“She’s vegan, so we couldn’t use any animal materials on the shoes for her character Fantine. We had to find very specific shoemakers to create lace-up boots and ankle boots. We also did flats that were much more sophisticated.”

Like our very own Uncle Rush, Anne Hathaway made a vow to veganism after shooting The Dark Knight Rises, and we are glad she has been sticking to her guns since.

Also vegan were the infamous Tom Ford cage sandals Anne wore last week when she made headlines for accidently flashing her whooha while exiting a car.
