Katy Perry has managed to balance a career on top of the world, a few boyfriends here and there, and a demanding schedule, but not all without committing some of her efforts to a good cause.

Last night in Los Angeles, Katy was honored for her work in the LGTB community, as she was awarded with the Hero trophy at a star-studded ceremony held by The Trevor Project.

During her acceptance speech, Katy, who was decked out in a nude Taylor Swift sparkle-style dress, spoke about her religious upbringing:

“I grew up in a very intolerant environment. For a long time, I was told that people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning were an abomination. As I’ve grown up, I’ve freed myself from the mindset. There was some perspective growth in my family. I believe in change… I believe that sexuality is fluid – nobody introduces me as, ‘This is Katy Perry, she is straight.’ I hope in the future that we will all grow beyond labels, beyond treating gays as a novelty friend group.”

Also in attendance to honor Katie was Zoe Saldana, Naya Rivera, and a slew of television’s biggest stars.
