Once upon a time, the craziest a manicure got when it came to designs was a little French mani here and a little color there. But within recent years, the nail art trends have exploded colossally. And when things get big, the prices get higher.

While average people are shelling out $15 for a basic mani, celebs like Rihanna, Kelly Osbourne and Jennifer Lopez are dropping the serious bucks on the finer fingernail things in life … like $250,000 manicures with real jewels.

During prep for the 2012 Emmy Awards, E! Fashion Police hostess Kelly Osborune tweeted out the following photo with a caption that read:

“About to get a $250k manicure w nail polish made w blk diamonds made by @azature so excited & honored but absolutely shitting myself to have that much money on my nails!”

Some critics clapped back at Kelly for spending such money on her nails, but more than likely the mani was gifted for branding purposes.

Kelly’s manicure was the product of jewelry designers Azature, and according to their press release, the polish can it be used to add a subtle shimmer to any nail look, or can be applied to achieve an on-trend ombré effect, or layered to provide a deep, multidimensional black-diamond finish.

Aside from Kelly, Jennifer Lopez was the only starlet to ever be seen rocking the $25K nail trend while she was out with beau Casper Smart.

Rihanna isn’t on the Azature train, but she is rocking some rubies on her damn nails. The pop star instagrammed the following photo with the caption:

#rubys in my damn gel polish!!! #phuckyodiamonds 4 caratz

Katy Perry is also one to pay special attention to her mani, but skipped the lavishly expensive diamond route recently for custom hand painted nails that are themed after the MTV hit show, Daria.

She tweeted:

It doesn’t get any better than hand painted DARIA nails by the girls at ES Nails TOKYO!”

But even hand painted nail designs can still run upwards into hundreds of dollars.

Guess it really ain’t trickin’ on your tips if you got it! Is a $250K mani excessive, or just the necessary amount of lavishness?
