George Zimmerman’s defense attorneys have filed paperwork today supporting the state’s motion to seal evidence in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Zimmerman attorney Mark O’Mara filed a seven-page document asking Judge Kenneth Lester for a 30-day period to review evidence in the case before it is made public.
O’Mara argued that some evidence the state has collected may be inadmissible and could inflame tensions in the racially charged controversy.
Statute allows information “revealing the substance of a confession” to be withheld. Lead prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda argues in the motion that because Zimmerman’s statements “could be used against him at trial,” the records should not be public.
Yesterday, prosecutors asked Judge Lester to seal all key pieces of evidence related to the case against Zimmerman from the public until trial. This includes the statements he made to Sanford Police during the initial investigation of the Trayvon shooting, along with barring the release of confessions, and the crime scene and autopsy photos.
Both sides have also asked the judge to withhold the names and addresses of witnesses in the case as he has set a hearing for next Friday on the state’s motion to seal evidence in the case.
