Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that Apple doesn’t track iPhone or iPad users. In a statement released yesterday, Jobs said via email: “We don’t track anyone. The info circulating around is false.”
The question was posed by a MacRumors reader who was concerned about the Cupertino based company’s methods.
“It’s kind of unnerving,” the reader wrote, ” knowing that my exact location is being recorded at all times. Maybe you could shed some light on this for me before I switch to a Droid. They don’t track me.”
“Oh yes they do,” Jobs replied, calling out all Android devices.
The thought of a corporation tracking users of its products is frightening, considering the present state of our world: information gathered may be used for personal advertising or collected by the government if information is requested to crush descent. Iran’s involvement with Siemens is an extreme, but it comes to mind when we consider the implications of a government with tentacle-like reach.
However, even turning off location based apps is not the move, as some of those apps are what make our phones ‘smart’ in the first place.
That said, here are some things Apple should be tracking instead of its customers.

The amount of suicides at the FoxConn, the plant where iPhones and iPads are made in China, is staggering. To date, 17 people have leapt to their deaths, blaming poor working conditions, low wages and long hours. Suicides there are so rampant, nets to catch jumpers had to be installed.

Google is great at location based apps. Apple too. Wouldn’t it be great if they joined forces and clued us in on what those flashing lights in weird patterns are? Psst, they’re UFOs!

Apple should make a device that actually tracks how many holes there are in our Ozone. After all, it needs people to use their products, no? More Ozone = less people. Do the math, Jobs!

It would be totally awesome if, somehow, Apple and Google teamed up to geo-tag all the trees in the Amazon, maybe insert some nano bots in a rain cloud over Earth’s vast lung so that whenever an area is razed, we can see the updates on our smart devices.
