A 13-year-old Illinois girl whose name remains unidentified due to her age, could face charges for dumping her newborn baby in a dumpster.

According to ABC News, police said the girl put the newborn baby boy in a dumpster, leaving him to fend for himself on New Year’s Day.
Authorities found the baby near Huntleigh Court in Chicago around 7pm, after having been alerted by a nearby hospital emergency room that the girl went to.
When the police found the child, the girl confessed to dumping the baby. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the incident.
An autopsy is still pending. The girl can be charged depending on whether or not the baby was born dead or alive.
