Esperanza Spalding “Black Gold” (NEW VIDEO)
Just in time for Black History Month, Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding dropped the video for the uplifting “Black Gold,” the first single off of her newest album, Radio Music Society.
MUSIC: Esperanza Spalding “Little Fly”
Esperanza’s new single is all about empowering yourself and being proud of your heritage. Backed by jazzy horns and keyboards, Esperanza sings:
- They’ll be folks hell bent on putting you down. Don’t get burned.
- Not necessarily everyone will know your worth.
- Think of all the strength you have in you, from the blood you carry within you.
- Ancient men, powerful men, builders of civilization.
This is very inspirational music – music that we don’t hear a lot of in 2012.

As for the video, it starts off with two young black boys telling their father the things they learned in class. The father isn’t satisfied with the Black History they learned, so he gives his boys some real schooling about their heritage and past.
While this is going on, we see Esperanza and her band just jamming away in a park.
“Black Gold” is a dope video that we definitely think is worth your time.
This upcoming weekend is the Grammys, an award show Esperanza knows a little something about. This time last year, the jazz singer was being presented with a Grammy for Best New Artist after releasing her Chamber Music Society album.
