Another Tuesday is here and the week is in full swing. You may as well make the most of it with a couple of great things to do for $10 or less. In today’s installment of Dollars & Sense we are focusing on things that you can do in Key West, Florida. Check it all out below!

Visit The West Martello Tower & Botanical Garden:

The West Martello Tower – This National Historic Site and former Civil War fort houses a delightfully tranquil outdoor botanical garden with many species of native and exotic plants, trees, and flowers including orchids and Brummel’s. The cool thick walls of the fort provide a welcome respite from the hot sun and you can stroll through the brick paths, archways, and courtyards. I like to make an iced lemonade and bring it with me to sip under the gazebo which faces out over the ocean. It is a relaxing place to meditate, feel the ocean breeze and enjoy the tropical foliage. There is an East & West Martello Tower. This is the West Martello branch and it’s free though donations to the Key West Garden Club are welcomed. The West Martello Tower & Garden is open year round Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m to 3:15 p.m. It is located at the end of While Street where it meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Visit The Key West Eco-Discovery Center:

Just opposite the entrance to Fort Taylor State Park is the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, a modern, state-of-the-art educational facility with presentations of the different ecosystems and habitats found in the Florida keys. There is a terrestrial habitat room, and underwater exhibit with a 2,500 gallon reef tank where you can see all kinds of tropical fish and sea life. The center has 74 seat digital theater where they show a special 20 minute environmental film, and have built a replica of Aquarius, the world’s only undersea laboratory, which is up in Key Largo. This is a great place to learn about the environment and wildlife of the Florida Keys. Kids will love it. There’s no admission fee. It’s free, air-conditioned, with plenty of free parking space in front of the building. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Financial Tip Of The Day

Turn Off The Television

One big way to save money is to watch less television. There are a lot of financial benefits to this: less exposure to guilt-inducing ads, more time to focus on other things in life, less electrical use, and so on. It’s great to unwind in the evening, but seek another hobby to do that.
