That’s the first question I get from people
The second is  ‘WHY A REGGAE ALBUM?’

I love the fact that you all take such an interest in me as an artist so let me briefly explain and amswer both questions.

1. Where have I been?

Over the last decade I was blessed beyond my imagination with a wonderful little girl.
I remember having to make a spirtual and creative decsison as to whether or not
I would continue to be HEAVY D the ‘star’ or Dwight Myers the human being and father..
I chose the latter..
I must say that it was the best experience of my life. What a joy it is to be a hands on parent. Now, I’m a single dad. Single in the sense of I’m not married. My daughter’s mother has a busy career and often takes her out of town and has her working long hours!  I know that there is always the option of having a nanny or a baby sitter but I’m proud to say that my child has had neither in her 9 yrs of life.. I was there for the entire experience.  Because she is now at an age where she is developing her own personality and her own ‘LIFE’. It was time for me to do what I was put on this earth to do..ENTERTAIN..

I missed it so much. I missed seeing the smile on the faces of a packed audience. For me that was the big check. I miss walking down the street and people having an opinion about what my current endeavor was. I realized that I had to get back out here and be creative which lead to question number two!

1.WHY REGGAE

So, as some of you know or may not know, I was born in Jamaica. I’ve always had one foot in Reggae and one foot in Hip Hop. In fact, they are one in the same.

The birth place of Hip Hop is Jamaica. Can anyone say Kool Herc???
I recommend that you do your homework on this matter as not to many people realize that.. In a future blog I will break down the parallels of Hip Hop and Reggae!

That being said, let talk about my new album ‘VIBES’
I did try and get to work and dive all the way in on your traditional Heavy D Hip Hop album.
What I discovered was that my best days in Hip Hop are behind me. For me to release an album that was not better than my previous work would dishonor the culture and disrespect the fans.. Why?

Because I no longer had the same passion, drive or frame of mind to do the craft justice. Now, I’ve always talked about doing a reggae album but this time it fit.
The moment I thought of it I got inspired.
It was like making my first album. I was fulll of ideas, passion and energy. I said to myself ‘this is the begining of a new life’ that is how you are supposed to feel when you create.

If it makes me feel good,it should make you feel good.  Here is a great quote that helped me.. ‘THE TRUTH IS MAGNETIC’

What I feel you too shall feel.
I love this project.. Go listen to ‘VIBES’ and let me know your thoughts. I’m open for spirited debates and conversation..

LET’S TALK!!

Blessings
