A Daytona Beach safety officer learned a valuable lesson about social media last week.

Don’t post your racial epithets on Facebook.

Todd Snipes was fired after he posted negative comments on his profile page regarding Trayvon Martin’s death and George Zimmerman’s acquittal.

The post, which has since been deleted, read:

“Another thug gone. Pull up your pants and be respectful. Bye bye thug r.i.p.”

County officials say Snipes showed “horrible judgment made worse during a racially charged atmosphere,” and he was subsequently let go for unprofessional conduct.

According to the Miami Herald:

Snipes was a Volusia lifeguard for 24 years and a law enforcement officer for 15. An official said Snipes apologized but that his remorse was “not in any way proportionate to this damage.”

That’ll teach him to keep his mouth shut.
