Mugshots, a bar near Ferguson, Mo., has come under fire for selling a Michael Brown-themed shot. Playing heavy on sarcasm, the bar featured the “Silver Bullet Special” named after the murdered teen, which included six tequila shots for $10. The owner of the bar claims it was just a joke, later renaming the deal after himself – “The A**hole Special.” [MSNBC]
One of the leaders in ride-share services is having the worst year ever. Uber has been hit with another lawsuit by San Francisco and Los Angeles prosecutors for their failure to detect suspicious employees. The lawsuit claims the company lied to customers about their drivers’ backgrounds and failed to successfully find safe and knowledgeable operators. With many cases this year surrounding Uber drivers and sexual assault, the company has some serious holes in their background policies to address. [Huff Post]
So this happened. A black teenager was taken out of school in Cincinnati, Ohio and jailed for a month without probable cause. The teen’s family is suing the Hamilton County juvenile court system for the September incident. Police claim the boy was accused of robbing a group of other teens. The family says the teen doesn’t have a criminal background and was home sleeping at the time of the alleged robbery. There’s no other proof he was part of the incident. Gotta love America. A Pennsylvania school district member is being slammed for her ill-advised Facebook post threatening to shoot Michael Brown protesters. High school guidance counselor Mary Kate Blankenburg posted on the social site last week, “If my child cannot get to the Eagles game due to protesters, I will personally SHOOT every one of them. You’ve been warned idiots!!” After she was reported to the school board, Blankenburg denied posting the threat and said her son “might have gotten hold of her i-Pad” while she was teaching Sunday school.
