Be careful about the web and app clients you use. One popular Instagram app has compromised the usernames and passwords of thousands of users in the UK and Canada.
According to The Guardian, “Who Viewed Your Profile – InstaAgent” lets you do just as the app suggests. But a developer shared on Twitter that he noticed there was malware in the iPhone app, meaning it has been “silently stealing usernames and passwords and uploading them to its developer’s server,” The Guardian reports. Who Viewed Your Profile is also available on Android, and between the two platforms, the app has been downloaded over 500,000 times. It’s been on the top of the app charts in both countries, but has now been removed from the App Store and Google Play.
If you have the app, it’s best you delete it. And moral of the story: don’t worry about who’s checking out your Instagram profile.
