In an era when African travel is often reduced to safari clichés or deemed “too complicated,” TripZapp founder Rory Okoli is setting a bold new standard. Her platform, TripZapp, is rewriting outdated narratives, spotlighting authentic experiences, and giving local tour operators the tools they need to thrive. All while helping travelers explore the continent with ease, trust, and purpose. Read more about the innovative app inside.

Founded in 2016, TripZapp began as a way for Okoli to help others plan unforgettable group trips across Africa. Today, it has grown into a full-fledged travel experiences booking platform featuring over 170 vetted local tour operators across 10 countries. The goal? To make African travel easier, more authentic, and more accessible for the world.

“There’s a gap where there isn’t one place where you can find all the things you want to do in Africa,” says Okoli in a recent Travel Noire interview. “With TripZapp, we’re able to shape the narrative of African travel.”

For Okoli, who is Nigerian and now based in Portugal, that narrative includes challenging misconceptions. For example, the idea that Africa lacks luxury, variety, or adventure. She recommends Zambia as a great starting point for first-timers, offering iconic activities like helicopter rides over Victoria Falls and whitewater rafting on the Zambezi River. For more seasoned adventurers? Mount Kilimanjaro. “It feels like the thing that would give experienced travelers that extra badge of honor,” she says.

TripZapp’s mission goes beyond bookings. It’s also about economic justice. By connecting travelers directly to local tour providers—many of whom have historically been excluded from larger booking platforms—TripZapp ensures tourism dollars stay in the communities that need them most. Okoli points out that foreign-owned travel companies often dominate the market and only hire locals during peak seasons. That dynamic leaves African entrepreneurs struggling to build sustainable year-round businesses.

“There are all these wrong stereotypes around Africa and African travel that we need to demystify,” Okoli added. “We want to make African travel easy, demystify it, and have one place where you go to.”

With TripZapp, travelers can now find, book, and zap their way into unforgettable African adventures. They are also supporting the people who make them possible. The future of African tourism is being rewritten, and Rory Okoli is holding the pen.
