Local gun shops from Oregon to Connecticut and even California have reported that their gun sales have increased since last week’s mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

DETAILS: Enough Is Enough! Politicians Demand Gun Control Talks NOW!

Many residents have flocked to gun stores to purchase pistols for protection or fear that the public will favor a Congress supported ban or crackdown on the rifles.

Karl Durkheimer, who owns a store in Illinois, told The Guardian that he seen his own store benefit from the fear that the Second Amendment may be infringed upon:

“Handgun sales are up substantially and modern sporting rifles are up astronomically,” he said after a few days when his shop, Northwest Armory, was packed with buyers sizing up the most popular pistol in the US, the Glock, and the military-style AR-15 assault rifle, which also comes with a pink stock for women. “The people you see are twofold. There are first-time buyers who are in fear of what the future will bring. But most of what you saw is people hedging their bets that there might be a political policy put forward by the liberal side of the government.”

Apparently, the sudden influx of individuals requesting high-powered handguns or assault rifles isn’t unusual.

Following The Dark Knight shootings in Colorado last summer, applications to buy guns rose more than 40 percent in a week. After congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in an assassination attempt, sales increased by 60 percent in a single day in Arizona.

Most alarming, however, is the percentage of gun owners since President Barack Obama was sworn into office. Since his inauguration, share price of firearms manufacturer Sturm, Ruger & Company has increased more than 700 percent.

Reportedly those numbers aren’t surprising to gun shop owners.

“No question, an election year where Democrats are winning drives a lot of business,” Durkheimer said.

Fifty-four percent of the country favor stricter gun-control regulation, but with the other forty-six percent running out to stockpile on guns, it looks like the divide is about to get even uglier.
