It was a huge weekend for legendary Florida artist T-Pain! The 40 year-old was recognized by his hometown of Tallahasse with a street renamed after him. Continue reading to find out more!
On Sunday (November 10th) morning, Tallahasse Mayor John Dailey and other city officials recognized “Tallahasse-Pain” for his contributions to music and his commitment to the community. Dailey presented T-Pain, whose real name is Faheem Rashad Najm, with the key to the city in front of a delighted crowd at Walker Ford Community Center.
“As a hometown hero, T-Pain has inspired countless fans and artists worldwide, and we’re proud to call him one of our own.” said Dailey. The Mayor also thanked the honoree for making them #TallahasseProud.
That wasn’t it though. On top of receiving the key to the city, the two-time Grammy Award-winning artist was also immortalized in his city in another special way. The Leon County native was honored by getting a street named after him. Pasco Street (which lands between Tucker Street and Orange Avenue) has been renamed to “T-Pain Lane.” The street sign officially went up last Friday.
“This is an honor,” said T-Pain. “I represent my city everywhere I go. I want people to know that you can make it from anywhere.”
Although Teddy Penderazzdown received the key to the city and had a street renamed after him, there was another reason he was in town. Tallahasse had their Bicentennial Festival commemorating the city’s 200th anniversary. After T-Pain received his flowers from his city, he once again gave back.
In front of a crowd of about 4,000 people or so at Cascades Park inside the Adderley Amphitheater, the “I’m Sprung” singer put on a show. He blessed his loyal fans with performances of some of his biggest hits including “Bartender” and “The Good Life” to name a few. It was a special moment for T-Pain, whose career has spanned over 20 years. He was finally able to put on the show he wanted for the city that put him on.
The city’s son left the crowd with some valuable advice. He encouraged them to unify and collaborate more. Furthermore, he spoke on the importance of not only being different, but also being yourself. It was a long overdue but well worth it day for T-Pain. Congrats to him and salute to all he does for the community!
