The year was 1994 and the age of R&B boy and girl groups had reached monumental heights, but all it took was one red album cover, a couple of silk pajamas and come condom-clad outfits to make us lifelong fans of TLC.

TLC was Crazy Sexy Cool before we even knew what it was to be an appealing combination of the three. Aside from their lyrical jest, the ladies stood out for their psychedelic style that seemed to have been dropped in from somewhere in the future, and it was. It was from now.

While it was hard to grasp the concept of some of the high-shine leather fits and oversized pieces Left Eye, Chilli and T-Boz were rocking in the ’90s, a few of their fits have seen an updated spin and re-circulation.

With the newly released trailer for their VH1 biopic, we’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic for the days of crop tops and hard abs, but a look back down memory lane proves the ’90s are back in full force, TLC style.

Don’t believe us, just watch!

For starters, TLC were the queens of the crop top. It was all abs everything when these women were gracing the room. Fast forward to runway shows in 2013 and it’s all about the sexiness paired with a little bit of an athletic edge, as TLC suspected it would be.

That scarlet lip looked like something out of the beauty industry universe when T-Boz rocked it, but it was one of the most worn lip trends this winter, with celebrities from Taylor Swift to Rihanna and Rooney Mara opting to darken things up a bit with wine colored lips.

Remember when everyone was on the ombre hair bandwagon? It was nothing but a thang to T-Boz in their “Girls Talk” music video. She had her reverse ombre look doing all the talking.

Rachel Roy and Rihanna have both hit the red carpet rocking their pajamas, but nobody was doing it like TLC was when they were getting their “Creep” on in matching multi-color silk getups.

TLC’s influence circa 2013:

All (p)leather everything is a look we have been seeing from quite a few acts, including Kanye West, Miley Cyrus and more…but we know where it all started.

Need proof?

Lest we not forget the monochrome trend that swept the nation in the more frigid seasons, our girls did it first.

And it definitely caught on with Beyonce…

And Miley has been loving the look as well.

Long live TLC, keeping it Crazy, Sexy and Cool for the masses when it comes to fashion. If you thought their style was futuristic, it’s because it was.
