The words strength, compassion, and gratitude can’t begin to describe the emotional meeting between Sybrina Fulton, Lesley McSpadden, and Valerie Bell.

In a special interview with CNN, the mothers of slain young men Trayvon Martin, Sean Belland Michael Brown spoke to Don Lemon about what they’ve learned from their haunting experiences and how they carry their sons with them everyday.

Fulton, the mom of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin – who was killed in 2012, and Valerie Bell, the mom of 23 year-old Sean Bell – who was killed by a barrage of bullets in 2006, had words of comfort for Michael Brown’s mom, Lesley McSpadden.

“You have to focus on the good times, you have to focus on when he was smiling, you have to focus on his first day of school and Christmas Day,” Fulton told McSpadden.

“Put a picture up when he was happy and focus on those, just don’t focus on the death, because that’s going to eat away at you.”

McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown, said she feels her son’s presence when it rains.

There’s something about the rain, something about it… I feel him.”

With the abundance of loss and grief, McSpadden was comforted by Fulton and Bell throughout the interview.

Brown’s funeral was held earlier today, with Trayvon Martin’s father and the families of Jordan Davis and Oscar Grant in attendance.
