A 30-year-old man is facing murder and sexual assault charges for killing his newborn daughter, ABC 7 reports.

Matthew Brendan Warner was charged after police found Baby Ellorah dead in a Nissan truck half a mile from where he and his girlfriend live in Santa Clarita, Calif. on Friday. Police claim Warner told his girlfriend, Tawni Wallis, that the child was missing, but neighbors saw him leaving his apartment complex with a bundle.

Warner is accused of killing his 19-day-old daughter, along with charges of assault on a child causing death, torture, oral copulation, or sexual penetration with a child 10 years old or younger, and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

A criminal complaint also listed “revenge” as a motive.

Wallis has not been charged with any wrong-doing. The child’s paternal grandmother, Nan Allison, had plenty of things to say to Warner outside court this week.

“I would tell him that when a man, but then I don’t consider him a man, has a child he should be that child’s protector until the day he as a father dies, and the idea that a three-week-old child should have to worry about defending herself against her 30-year-old father is abhorrent to me,” Allison said.

Warner’s mother Victoria Law-Thomson believes her son is innocent, but is aware of his past drug addiction and time in and out of jail.

“I still believe in you. I just wish you’d reacted different. I think you made some really idiotic choices,” Law-Thomson said.

A candlelight vigil was held for Baby Ellorah on Tuesday. The family is also taking donations to help with funeral costs. You can check out their fundraiser here.

Warner is still behind bars under a $2.25 million bail and is expected to be arraigned on Feb. 18. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
