The Americans are the best.

Gabby Douglas:

16-year-old Gabby Douglas is quickly winning the hearts of Americans all over the country. The 4’11 Virginia native nicknamed the Flying Squirrel has a big heart and uses it to love the Lord. Her connection to God comes from her mother, who every morning sends Gabby a scripture that she uses to meditate before and after practice. The Flying Squirrel has a message to young ladies who look up to her. She tells them: “Never quit, never give up when you have a little trouble just keep fighting and always believe.” Well those words seem to have gotten her far; she will be bringing back gold!

Aly Raisman:

18-year-old Aly Raisman has had Olympic dreams since she was a little girl. She looks up to Olympians before her; so much so, that when she was 8 years old she got her hands on a tape of the 1996 Gold Medal team that her mother taped. Aly watched Kerri, Dominique and the others over and over again, using it for motivation to achieve her goal of being the second team of girls to win Gold. She trained 7 hours a day, but she loves hanging out with her friends when she can. Her favorite food is fish, but she starts her day off with cornflakes… That sounds like an endorsement deal in the making.

Jordyn Weiber:

From tears to cheers, 17-year-old Jordyn Weiber is now an Olympic champion. She was born to be a gymnast. At the age of 11 months, she was standing on her tiptoes and her calves were so big that her parents said she should try the sport; and the rest is history. This Michigan native was the world champion coming into the games, but failed to make the All Around individual competition.

Kyla Ross

At 15 years old, Kyla Ross is the youngest U.S. competitor in the Olympics this year. When the gymnastic superstar is not competing or training, she’s hanging with her best friend McKayla Maroney, whom she met at a gymnastics club, or she’s shopping at her favorite store, Forever 21. Nicknamed Mighty Mouse, Kyla originally got involved in the sport because she used to climb everything as a child. Now, the 5’1 powerhouse is climbing her way to the top!

McKayla Maroney

McKayla Maroney said prior to heading to London: “If I do my job, I know I can get the gold medal,” and that’s just what she’s done! McKayla, who had the golden opportunity to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated, stands at 5’2, just two inches taller than her idol Carly Patterson. Now look at McKayla, she’s bringing home the gold herself.
