Yesterday, the pop world was stunned when news came out, rather suddenly, that Avril Lavigne was engaged to Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger.

No one knew that Avril had been dating the rock star for six months. But maybe we should have been looking harder.
A couple of months ago, CBSLocal caught up with the singer and she revealed she’s been working on new music with Kroeger and also David Hodges, of Evanescence fame. She said:
“I’ve just spent 17 days working with Chad Kroeger and David Hodges. And the three of us have been writing a lot of songs together. A lot. And recording and having a really good time, having a really great time. They’re very talented musicians and it feels good for me to be around people like that.”
Avril also told CBSLocal:
“Actually I just got home from tour and just hanging out in the studio and getting a lot of work done, like 12-16 hour work days — nothing else really exists in my life right now, other than music. It’s awesome.”

Spending 12 to 16 hours in a cramped studio with someone can lead to sparks flying. And it seems like the two got extremely close during those months. From February, around the time they were working together, to now, Avril would send out Tweets like this:
