Cheating.

We’ve all, including myself, have cheated at least once in our lives (never on a spouse).

OK, maybe we all haven’t cheated on a spouse or a boyfriend/girlfriend, but we’ve all cheated on tests or diets and some of us have even cheated death.

Out of all the instances of cheating, the most polarizing perhaps is cheating in a relationship.

Seen as the ultimate betrayal of trust, cheaters find themselves stepping out on their partners for several different reasons.

One thing studies on infidelity and cheating have concluded is women and men cheat for different reasons.

When a woman cheats on a man, it’s generally seen as a rare occurrence that typically has a “reason,” while men are almost expected to cheat, due to nature, of course.

Both are unacceptable, but for men, it seems like our society gives them a pass, because well, they’re just doing what seems to be in their genetic makeup.

Studies have shown that most men cheat to achieve sexual satisfaction, and sometimes attribute feeling “underappreciated” or unsatisfied by their spouses in the bedroom.

Women, on the other hand, are placed in with a different stigma. Labeled as “less-than” a woman or promiscuous, cheating women don’t often receive passes to do the unthinkable in a relationship.

Actress Kristen Stewart made headlines when she was caught cuddling with Snow White & the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders.

Her infidelity led everyone to wonder why Kristen would cheat on Twilight eye candy boyfriend, Robert Pattinson.

Welp, it’s sad to say, but Robert was probably the cause of his relationship’s demise.

Now, now, before all the men reading this blog get their boxer briefs in a bunch, let me explain.

Unlike men, the majority of women cheat for reasons regarding self-esteem, emotional disconnect, neglect, boredom, and sometimes revenge (typically on a proven cheating spouse, again seeking emotional satisfaction).

Women who justify their cheating ways often admit to emotionally cheating, before leaping into the complicated realm of sex, which in my opinion, seems to be more detrimental to a relationship than the sexual escapades of their male counterparts.

Although Kristen’s been caught making out with Rupert, it has been reported that she and her director beau didn’t actually have sex.

Which further proves my point.

And in a recent interview with ELLE magazine, the Twilight starlet was quoted as saying she “feels boring.” And quite frankly, maybe Kristen’s affair was her erroneous way to get Robert Pattinson’s attention she so longed for.

From the outside, Robert Pattinson looks like the perfect lover, but maybe his boyish good looks weren’t enough to keep Kristen wanting more.

No one really knows why Kristen stepped out on Robert, but let statistics be a guide into the mind of a cheating woman.

Ultimately, cheating, no matter the reason, is a sure-fire way to sentence your relationship to death, and maybe women and men need to be honest with themselves before dragging their significant others into a pool of deception and pain.

At the end of the day, men lie, women lie. And cheaters are no exception.
