Here at GlobalGrind, we don’t take cosigns lightly. So we say with great confidence that ZZ Ward is dope. Like, really dope.

The young singer caught our attention with her unique throwback, yet modern bluesy, sound. This upcoming Tuesday, the singer will release her debut project, Til The Casket Drops. For the last couple of weeks, the singer has been premiering a new track from the project every couple of days or so.

We’re happy to bring you the world premiere of a new track from the project called “Charlie Ain’t Home,” which features Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

Ali Shaheed speaks highly of ZZ stating:

“In this age of music filled with monotonous melodies ZZ Ward revitalizes the moment with melodies that burst in passion, movement & soul. She has taken tales of hurt and twist them into a heroes anthem. ZZ’s live performances are energetic, her voice has a rawness and goodness that cuts straight to that mmm spot inside of you. If you have ever seen ZZ live then you understand. I loved working with her and I am excited to see her do her thing.”

On the track, ZZ Ward, who is backed by a smoky guitar, sings poetic, sultry lines like:

“I dig my fingertips into your back, till the pictures break and the floorboards crack.

Oh, my tongue is a silver key, swimming’ deep in a sinner’s sea.”

Til The Casket Drops comes out on Tuesday, and the eccentric project has appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Freddie Gibbs and The O’Mys. We can’t wait until you hear Til The Casket Drops, but until then, give “Charlie Ain’t Home” a listen.
