Authorities say a 9-month-old boy was shot and killed when gunfire erupted at a Detroit home early Monday.

Detroit Police Sgt. Gary Diaz says the infant was pronounced dead at a hospital after a group of men drove to the house, hopped out and opened fire.

According to Detroit Police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens, the baby was in the living room when the shooting happened around 4:30 a.m.

“There were individuals who exited a vehicle and fired multiple shots into the home.”

Shell casings were found outside the home and a witness told investigators a car sped away after the shooting but he could not identify the vehicle.

No arrests have been made and police say the first 24-hours of the investigation are critical and ask anyone with information on the shooting to call 313-596-2260.
