A grand jury indicted Dunn, 46, for shooting Davis through the window of a vehicle at a Jacksonville convenience gas station on Nov. 23. Dunn was arrested a day later for second-degree murder, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Dunn, who is white, now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder for firing at the car which contained three other passengers, all friends of Davis. The state attorney's office later decided to upgrade the charge to first-degree murder, which in Florida requires a grand jury decision.Dunn's arraignment on the new charges is scheduled for Dec. 17.

Dunn and his lawyers, who have since been replaced by a new attorney, planned to use Florida's controversial "Stand Your Ground," law to plead his case. Davis' father, Ron Davis, is planning to fight the "Stand Your Ground" law, which might also be used in another controversial Florida shooting involving teen Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman.

Justice is far from being served, but we think this is a step in the right direction. Only time will tell. Jordan Davis' family is still in our prayers.
