It was a war zone last night as Oakland riot police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at the Occupy Oakland protesters who set up camp at Frank Ogawa Plaza.

Tonight, police in Oakland are allowing protesters back into the Plaza, but the demonstrators are only allowed to stay until 10 p.m. There are no overnight camps allowed.

The plaza is barricaded on all sides with metal fences, with police officers and vehicles parked inside.

Many protesters have taken to Twitter, saying they plan on retaking the plaza using the hashtag #retaketheplaza.

Mayor Jean Quan said in a press conference that she supports the goals of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

She called the city “very progressive,” and said officials understood the goals of the movement.

Hopefully a repeat of the bloody battle between police and protestors that shocked the nation, will NOT happen again.
