Diddy recently spoke with MTV News regarding taking Simon Cowell’s place on the hit television show American Idol.

“I have been fronting all this time, trying to act like I don’t want that spot. [But] I spoke to Simon’s business manager, and I found out how much that boy makes a week. I am praying right now to ‘American Idol.’”

He’s even taken things to the next level requesting his fans’ help with getting the spot.

“I want everybody to get on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and say that Diddy should get the Simon spot – but for the same amount of money that Simon was getting, else it’s a deal-breaker.”

I believe that if Diddy really wants it he’ll get that spot, and he’s definitely one that deserves the spot. He’s proved time and time again that he knows music, television, and talent. So with that said, here’s my five reasons why Diddy should replace Simon Cowell on American Idol (in no particular order).

1. He Discovered The Notorious B.I.G.

Considered by many to be the greatest emcee of all time, Brooklyn’s own Notorious B.I.G. changed the way people perceived rappers, and Puff helped develop that great artist we know today. Although he passed away over a decade ago, Biggie’s influence on music still goes strong today, from rappers borrowing a line or two, to people using B.I.G. samples.

2. He Discovered Mary J. Blige & Jodeci

Perhaps the best R&B acts to come out of the 90’s, Puff brought Mary J. Blige and Jodeci to Uptown Records and helped lead them to successful careers. This was proof that Puff knows not only hip-hop (signing Notorious B.I.G.) but R&B music as well. Mary J Blige has gone on to sell millions of records, and she still holds the title as Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. Although Jodeci isn’t really where they should be, they brought a new sound and swag to R&B and contributed heavily to baby makin’ music.

3. He ‘Invented’ The Remix
