Christopher Plummer, the most talked about star of the new movie “Beginners,” continues to take on daring roles as he gets older. “Beginners” which is in theaters now, is a story of a young man Oliver (Ewan McGregor), his elderly father Hal, played by Chris, and their rocky relationship of trying to make it right before it’s too late. After losing his wife Oliver’s mother, Hal reveals to his son that he has terminal cancer, and has a young male lover companion. Hal exposes that he was gay the whole time he was married to his wife.

We sat down to have an exclusive interview with Christopher Plummer to talk about his point of view of the movie, and having a secret homosexual lifestyle. It got really interesting, so here take a look at GlobalGrind’s exclusive interview with Chris below!

I looked at your body of work, you put out three-five movies almost every year, there’s no plans of slowing down is there?

No. In fact, I want to speed it up cause as I get older I want to do as many things as I possibly can before I croak.

We don’t want you to croak. How do you remain so consistent with your body of work?

Well, I think it’s because I spent my life in the theater which physically and mentally keeps you a lot more alert on the screen and I think that’s helped a great deal.

Now, you played a gay character before but it seems like this was the first time like this. How was it kissing a guy?

Goran, who plays my boyfriend in the film, is 100 percent heterosexual and he kept saying “Oh my God. I’m so nervous.” I said “What’s the matter with you?” and he said “Tomorrow we’ve got to kiss.” I said “I know, I’m just as nervous as you are. Come on.” But when it finally came, I said “Hey it’s not bad at all. Why not?”

In this movie, your character had to hide his sexuality. what is your opinion on what it will take for America to accept male homosexuality in a similar way that they accept female homosexuality?

Well I think they do now in concentric and wide circles. I can’t speak for everybody. There will always be someone who thinks it’s a disease. But I think since the house of laws passed it in 1967 — it wasn’t that long ago — I think everybody has another attitude toward it, thank God.

Why do you think a lot of men stay on the down-low and lead secret lives?

I think that some people they’re shy, they don’t want to. I don’t particularly go around wanting to talk about my heterosexuality either. Who’s business is it of anybody’s? But, people are reticent and I don’t blame them. They’re still out there those predators.

Lastly, what was the most fun with you and the Jack Russell that was on set?

(laughs) Yes, I actually like working with Ewan very much too. The dog probably better than Ewan.
