Tommy Hilfiger looked to the ’60s for inspiration for  his pop art-reminiscent women’s collection for S/S 2012 at the Highline Ballroom last night.

Motocross, stripes, leather, camouflage and color blocking were central to Hilfiger’s looks which were economical in both design and purpose. Hilfiger called his collection “Pop Prep,” borrowing from Andy Warhol who came into prominence in the ’60s. The collection is classic Hilfiger and may be worn time after time in a fluctuating economy.

“These are optimistic pieces, travel pieces that go anywhere,” Hilfiger said before the show. “It’s easy dressing for preppy adventures. I was inspired by pop art — I love pop art and the work of Warhol, Haring and Basquiat.”
