The beautiful Jennifer Hudson opened up to NBC’s Dateline Sunday night and spoke about her weight loss, family tragedy and love – and specifically how her fiancé David Otunga popped the big question.

The couple – now engaged for three years – had been dating for less than a year before Otunga got down on one knee and proposed to Hudson on a Malibu beach on her 27th birthday.
Jennifer recalls the night:
“I remember him telling me, ‘Put on your favorite dress.’ He had birthday cards, and each card threw another hint and another hint and another hint. And I got to the last one, and it said when you’re done reading this card, I want you to turn around and I have a birthday gift for you… I turned around and he was on his knees proposing [with a Neil Lane diamond].”

The Oscar & Grammy Award-winner and Harvard-lawyer-turned WWE wrestler have a beautiful two-year-old son together named David (after his father). Jennifer has confirmed to Dateline that a wedding date has been chosen, but remains tight lipped as to when.
