Yesterday the Occupy Wall Street Movement marched from Zuccotti Park all the way to Union Square in protest against police brutality and demanded the resignation of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.

The focal point of all those who participated was the tragic murder of Trayvon Martin, whose murderer, George Zimmerman, has yet to be detained.

Though George Zimmerman was not a police member, many of the Occupiers feel that the Florida police’s handling of the investigation and their failure to detain George, is in itself, an act of brutality.

One protestor Tucker Mowatt, who was jailed for 45 days by the NYPD for “exercising his amendment rights” spoke with GlobalGrind about the revival of the movement saying:

“We slowed down because of weather but they can’t stop us.”

A world WWII veteran and member of the Veterans Peace Team, also spoke to us about his fight for Trayvon Martin saying:

“When Emit Till was murdered and there were protests in Harlem, I went, and I was moved. That was my first time recognizing police brutality was a problem. This is important… being in the streets, letting the establishment know we’re not violent and we want change.”

There were also bystanders who attended the march yesterday, such as David. David said he “respected people who spoke out and got things organized.”  He also added that he appreciated a movement that “speaks for people who don’t have jobs, or even a GED.”

Hundreds of Occupiers have been arrested and mistreated by the NYPD since the movement sprung in November of 2011. Yesterday about 14 protesters were arrested. Amidst the arrest protestors yelled “Shame!” and “End Police Brutality!”

It’s amazing that the Occupiers have united with the Trayvon Martin movement against police brutality.
