It’s Monday and it’s the start of a new month! Monday’s are never easy, having to get back into the work week routine, but a new month should get people excited to start July on the right foot!

As we settle in at our offices for the day, the word free should get people happy. In today’s Dollars and Sense, we found some cool things to do in Los Angeles where you can leave your cash at home!

Visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame:

The Hollywood Walk of Fame runs fifteen blocks down Hollywood Boulevard and will cost you nothing to check out the 2,472 embedded stars on the sidewalk. You can see the stars recognizing every type of celeb, from Mickey Mouse to Destiny’s Child. The Hollywood Walk of Fame not only recognizes stars, but corporate entities as well. You will spot stars granted to the LAPD, Victoria’s Secret, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Attend a TV Show Taping:

While in Los Angeles, you can check out a TV show taping of your favorite sitcom, talk show, game show, or reality show. This gives you an opportunity to check out your favorite television stars live and in person. Tapings usually last three to five hours and you’re normally sitting about 30 feet away, so it’s a very intimate setting. It may be the off season for a lot of TV shows, but you will still find a lot of tapings in Los Angeles!

Financial Tip of the Day

Make your Own Gift Instead of Buying It

Everytime you turn around, it’s another friend’s birthday and another gift you need to buy. Instead of going to the store and buying a gift your friend will probably never use, save your money and make a gift from the things you have in your home. You can make food mixes, bread, cookies, soap and all other kinds of things from the supplies you have in your cabinet. Along with your gift, include a handwritten note and that will make the gift even more special. After all, it’s the thought that counts.
