The shooting that took place outside the Empire State Building in NYC shocked the country.

Jeffrey Johnson was identified as the shooter, killing his victim, Steve Ercolino, but nine bystanders were also victims of bullets. Aside from the shooter’s victim, though, all others shot were hit by police bullets.

Police commissioner Ray Kelly told CNN that victims weren’t hit by the bullets as much as “flowerpots and other objects around, so … their bullets fragmented and, in essence, that’s what caused the wounds.”

Six of the nine people shot were released from the hospital yesterday evening, while three more are still being treated.

One of the victims still suffering, Erica Solar, was going to get a cup of coffee from Dunkin Donuts when she was shot in the back of her leg.

A man named Robert Asika, a tour guide, was shot on his way to work yesterday morning.

He told WCBS:

“When I turned around, I saw a guy reach in his suit and he pulled out a gun. I guess he shot at the police officer. And the police officer shot him. And one of them shot me in the arm, and I fell.”

Jeffery Johnson went into his former women’s apparel designing job he was laid off from a year ago, to shoot and kill his old boss, Steven Ercolino.

Steve’s brother told CNN:

“It’s not something that should happen to a loving person like that. He’s going to be so missed by everybody. He was a light of so many lives.”

We pray for the victims of the shootout and for their families.
