What do Tyga and Vanilla Ice have in common?

DETAILS: Finally! Rick Ross Opens Up About His Life As A Corrections Officer

Well, a lot.

The two rappers have found themselves immersed in a world of controversy surrounding the place they call home. The “Make It Nasty” rapper made headlines last week when a vintage video of him as a goofy 18-year-old aspiring rapper, then known as T-Raw, surfaced on the ‘net.

The video showed Tyga in a previously unaired MTV reality show titled Bustas, which featured the YMCMB rapper stating he was from the Valley and his parents were the owners of luxury vehicles like a Range Rover and a CLS Mercedes.

DETAILS: Tyga Says He’s From Compton, Not The Valley

All would have been well, except the fact that Tyga has always claimed he was from the more dangerous California neighborhood of Compton.

Tyga has since brushed off the rumors that he’s been lying about his hometown to gain more street credibility.

The “Rack City” rapper is still claiming that he’s from Compton and that he only lived a short time in the Valley.

GlobalGrind decided to round up other artists who found themselves wrapped up in little white lies during their careers.

From Rick Ross’ infamous corrections officer debacle, to R&B singer Brandy pretending that she was married to save her image, GlobalGrind has it all.

Check out the other 7 artists caught in a few fictional fairytales below!

Rick Ross‘ career as a thorough rapper was almost ruined in 2008 when 50 Cent went on a rampage to expose Rick Ross for being a “cop” before becoming a multi-platinum selling rapper.

The Smoking Gun did some research and discovered the Teflon Don rapper was actually a corrections officer for two years before embarking on a rap career.

A picture of Rick Ross in a corrections officer uniform was eventually released, including work documents with Rick Ross’ social security number attached to it.

Initially, Rick Ross denied the allegations of his corrections officer past, but eventually came clean, admitting to his past life.

It wasn’t until recently that Rick Ross completely opened up to Rolling Stone about his life working in a prison.

Rick Ross stated:

“My homey’s father was a huge influence on my life, too . . . He was the one who was like, ‘Yo, go get a job somewhere, man. Go be a fireman. Or go be a fucking corrections officer. Just go sit down somewhere.”

In 2011, Lil Kim released her mixtape Black Friday, which featured a Nicki Minaj diss record. Lil Kim claimed she sold 100,000+ copies on PayPal in 24 hours with sales grossing more than $1 million. The “Hardcore” femcee claimed to have broken the PayPal record for selling the most records on the e-commerce site.

Critics didn’t particularly believe Lil Kim’s stats, so StreetAnthem.com called up PayPal and spoke with a representative who stated the site doesn’t track such figures.

Lil Kim eventually deleted the tweet and then stated she didn’t know the exact sales figures of Black Friday

Soulja Boy had the whole world believing he was about that jetsetter life when he claimed he bought at $55 million private jet.

A few days later, Soulja Boy’s publicist retracted his initial claims, stating the “Pretty Boy Swag” rapper did not buy a private jet.

Birdman once said Lil Wayne has more money than Jay-Z, but that wasn’t the only story he was caught telling. In 2010, the Cash Money CEO revealed he was in the process of buying part ownership of the Miami Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins spokesperson denied those claims, stating:

“I have NEVER spoken to him or any representative…Not considering or looking for any celebrity limited partners.”

In February 2002, Brandy announced she was expecting her first child, and married to her daughter’s father. The event of her child’s birth was even documented on a MTV special titled, Brandy: Special Delivery.

Later on that year, Brandy and her daughter’s father officially called it quits and told the world they were “separating.”

A little less than two years later, Brandy eventually came clean to US Weekly, revealing that she wasn’t married and that she lied due to the pressures of her career as a “role model.”

During her VH1 Behind The Music special, Brandy stated:

“The lie about being married was the fall of my career. Everything changed.”

Akon burst onto the music scene when he released “Locked Up” in 2004. Leading people to believe he spent 3 years in jail for leading an alleged grand theft operation, Akon claimed that he once faced a whopping 75 years in prison.

The Smoking Gun did a little investigating and found out the African artist was arrested for driving a stolen car and served a little under five months before prosecutors dropped all charges against him.

Vanilla Ice had the whole world whispering “ice ice baby.” Vanilla Ice also had the whole world believing he crew up in a crime infested neighborhood to strengthen his street credibility.

Wanting his fans to believe he lived a tough life, Vanilla instructed his biographer to release an exaggerated version of his life. After being exposed by those who knew him best, Vanilla Ice set the record straight in a book he wrote himself.
