It may only be the 12th day in January, but Springfield Police are already investigating the first drive-by shooting of 2010.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News it appears someone opened fire on a man as he stood in the street from a moving car. Sgt. Delaney said the 33 year-old victim has a long rap sheet with Springfield Police, including drugs and weapons charges.

The victim was shot three times — once in the leg, once in the ribs and once in the abdomen. Fortunately, there was a police officer who heard the shots while working a road detail close-by, who responded immediately. After he was hit, the victim ran to safety at nearby C & D Variety just across the street to call 911.
