If you don’t believe in the power of education, you might want Elijah Miles to school you!
In a very passionate speech that he delivered to the incoming teachers of the institution, Miles, an intern of the Teach For America program, spoke on the many cons of the education system that are present today.
However, he also showed hope for the future of education with the help of amazing educators.
“The motivation to get leave Hell and get to the promised land is the reason why some will never come back. Their teachers told them that it ain’t no good there…It’s the reason why kids are grow up with no role models in their neighborhoods right now…If you truly want to make this change, and I believe in my heart that you do, I suggest that you try to break this down.”
The video, posted by Teach For America, had a caption that spoke very highly of the high school student.
A summer intern at Teach For America Baltimore, Elijah Miles delivered this inspiring speech to a group of incoming teachers at institute. Wise well beyond his years, we think Elijah’s words are a great reminder about why we do the work that we do.
Elijah will begin college at Morgan State in the fall.
