On Thursday, Twitter announced it would be discontinuing Vine, which it bought in early 2013. In just over three years, Vine influenced music, fashion, and slang across all segments of pop culture. The brilliantly simple app even birthed new stars, resurrected old ones, and inspired a Beyoncé video.

The millions of 6-second clips that have already been uploaded to Vine’s servers are expected to stay online for the next few months, but reports say they could disappear suddenly one day. Here’s what the minds behind the move had to say in a Medium post:

We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way… You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made.
