Boss man Russell Simmons is currently overseas in Israel.
During his first ever trip to the Holy Land, he is not only taking in the history and culture of the country, but he’s making some history of his own.
Having met with Nir Barkat, the mayor of Jerusalem, and Shimon Peres, the President of Israel, on his very first day, Russell received President Peres’ blessings towards his ultimate goal – to get Prime Minister (of Israel) Benjamin Netanyahu and President Abbas to agree to support and co-chair his program with Imams and Rabbis that promotes peace dialogue between the Muslim and Jewish people.
After his first day, which can be dubbed a smashing success, Russell had an impromptu meeting with the Mufti of Jerusalem, Sheikh Mohammed Hussein – the most important religious leader to the Palestinian people.
Although the meeting was not originally on his itinerary, the two had a productive conversation, which lasted over an hour. Of his peace meetings with both the Mufti and Israel’s chief Rabbi, Russell said:
“We never intended to take on the political agenda of the peace-process, but after meeting with Sheikh Mohammed, I realized that these two leaders could broker the peace and become heroes.”
Russell is now taking on his greatest mission ever: peace in the Middle East. He tweeted:
And in between working for peace, he managed to squeeze in a trip to the historic Wailing Wall (see photo above). He tweeted:
We wish Uncle Rush the best in his journey towards peace. Stay tuned for details as he continues his trip…
