American Express hosted a screening and after party for “Mr. Stache,” the winner of the 2010 American Express ‘My Movie Pitch,’ competition. The competition allows users the chance to pitch a movie and see the film come to life.

In comes Amy Smart and Rich Sommer who star in “Mr. Stache,” a film about a man who grows a mustache, which nobody mustache and all his friends leave him. It’s a very serious drama about a man and his mustache!

We caught up with Amy Smart and talked to her about the film, her recent engagement and being green.

GlobalGrind: Congratulations on everything! This short film was amazing, how was it to see yourself with a mustache?

Amy Smart: It’s funny. It makes you think why men grow them and women don’t. I really enjoyed it and it was funny to see mens’ reactions.

In the short film, which people can watch above, your character wants to be alone, can you explain that a little bit more?

I like that she’s totally mortified that she grows a mustache. The message throughout is that we all have an inner mustache that we are scared to reveal to others. But when we finally do and people accept it, then we feel proud and more confident. It’s like a part of our personality, something about us. It is scary though, crossing that threshold and allowing people to see who we really are.

Someone said you were one of the greenest people they know. How important is it for you to live a green lifestyle?

It’s so important. All the little seemingly small habits that we have in our daily lives, make a huge impact at the end of the day, such as choosing to use a refillable water bottle or buying organic products. Using reusable bags. We all live on the same planet and we all have a responsibility to do our part in maintaining it.

I have this recurring role in “Shameless,” which has been amazing! I Just did an ABC Family TV movie, it’s a fun romantic comedy. Also, I have a couple more independents coming out; “Colombus Circle, “with Selma Blair and Giovanni Ribisi.

We are a little curious, what’s your favorite place to eat in California?

I love this Italian restaurant called Da Pasquale. It smells amazing and there is always a great energy when I go.

Lastly, who are some musicians you’re listening to now?

I fluctuate, really depends on my mood. I like Brandi Carlisle and Ingrid Michaelson.
